Hong Mei's story

01 July 2009

HONG MEI'S STORY

After living for three years in an institution, Hong Mei was placed into foster care when she was five years old. To beging with, she defensive and resistent to everyone. When she was upset, her foster mother tied to comfort her, but she pushed her away.

Though it was hard, Hong Mei's foster mum never gave up caring for her, and tried every possible way to reach Hong Mei's closed, inner world. Every day she would cook food that she knew Hong Mei liked. And after meals, she would take Hong Mei out for a walk to spend time with her, to talk and play games. Hong Mei had never received such special attention before.

As time passed, Hong Mei and started to call her foster mum 'Mum', and by learning to trust, became deeply attached to her.

With her foster family's love and nurture, Hong Mei has grown up into a bright and lovely girl. Now she can manage and regulate her feelings and emotions, and has learned to show concerns and empathy to others.

Every bit of progress by Hong Mei brings great joy and encouragement to her foster parents.
