Mongolia is a land-locked country in North East Asia bordering China in the South and the Russian Federation in the North. The total territory of the country is 1.566 million square kilometers. It is larger than the territories of Great Britain, France, Germany and Italy combined. Mongolia has a population of about 2.8 million with about 36% of the population below 18 years of age. About 60% of the population lives in the capital city, Ulaanbaatar.
By invitation of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Labour of Mongolia, Care for Children made a trip to Ulaanbaatar between 17-20 May to meet with the ministerial team to discuss a joint pilot project
designed to promote foster care
in Ulaanbaata
r, and which can later be replicated throughout Mongolia
.
A trip to one of Mongolia's state-run orphanages in Ulaanbaatar was made during the trip, and positive relationships have been forged with the orphanage staff.
The Ministry of Social Welfare and Labour of Mongolia is extremely keen to work with Care for Children on a foster care project in Mongolia, and an MOU between the ministry and Care for Children will be signed in the coming weeks.
