Care for Children is honoured to receive an endorsement from the UK’s Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, during a landmark Summit on family-based care reform for disadvantaged children, co-hosted by Care for Children and the Armenian Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in Yerevan.
In a video address delivered to Country Ambassadors from across the region, including Serbia, Cyprus, Iran, Iraq, Qatar, the UAE, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Saudia Arabia, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Armenia. Mr. Lammy highlighted Care for Children’s vital role in catalysing this change around the world. This represents a significant affirmation of Care for Children’s mission: to see children moved out of institutions and into local, loving families. Mr. Lammy’s remarks place our work at the heart of a growing global movement – to make Care Reform and family-based care an accessible right for all children.
This endorsement comes in the wake of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s (FCDO) launch of a Global Alliance, spearheaded by Mr. Lammy to protect the rights of children worldwide. As part of this initiative, the UK is advocating for sustainable, lasting reform of children’s social care, with six countries across four continents already committed to driving forward progress on this issue. This will be followed by the launch of a Global Charter later this year. Care for Children’s work aligns strongly with this vision, offering a proven pathway for governments to reform their child welfare systems and prioritise family placement. Mr. Lammy’s recognition underscores how our mission fits squarely within this global agenda.
The Foreign Secretary thanked Care for Children for our more than two decades of dedicated partnership, training, and advocacy that has had a tremendous impact in countries across Asia. Having placed more than one million children globally through our family placement model, the support of leaders like Mr. Lammy reinforces both the credibility of our approach and the urgency of our vision to see “a world of children in families”.
Care for Children will use this encouragement as a catalyst for future progress and redouble our efforts in the coming years to scale our models and reach millions more children who do not currently enjoy the right of growing up in a loving family.
We invite all who share our vision to see ‘a world of children in families’; whether as donors, funders, advocates, or champions of family-based care, to back our mission towards building a better future for disadvantaged children through family-based care.
