Created in 1997, GlobalGiving is a global crowdfunding platform allowing donors to connect directly with social and environmental projects around the world. Care for Children is lucky enough to have four of its projects hosted on GlobalGiving. This is such an effective way for Care for Children to promote its projects to a global audience, and forms a key element of our individual giving fundraising efforts. Since 2012, Care for Children has raised over $180,000 via GlobalGiving towards its work to see children across the world moved out of institutions and into local family-based care.
Earlier this year we were delighted to receive a donation of $58,000 for our Thailand project after someone spotted the project on GlobalGiving! This generous amount has helped complete the funding needed for the current phase of the project, whereby specialised training and support in family placement is delivered to government Child Welfare Homes (also known as orphanages) and Shelters for Children and Families across Thailand, with the sole purpose of giving as many orphans and vulnerable children possible the opportunity of living in a safe and secure family. We are so grateful for the support of this donor.
′This is the biggest donation which the GlobalGiving platform has generated for us, and we were so excited to share this news with our Thai project. Many children’s lives will be transformed by the love and care of a family in Thailand.″ James Paul, Senior Grant Writer
Now with funding secured for this phase of the project, we can start to look ahead at the next and final phase of the project. The team in Thailand is currently in discussions with our government partner and two other NGOs to develop a comprehensive system for supporting orphans and vulnerable children, which focuses on the root causes of family-child separation, while strengthening child protection systems and supporting children’s transition from institutional care to family-based alternative care.
This phase of the project will build on current momentum for family-based care, which can be seen within the Thai government. Most notably, in November 2021 a radical new government policy in Thailand was introduced to make it mandatory for all children under 6 to be in family-based care. We are extremely excited to be part of this work. We now know that the outcome of our work in Thailand to see orphans and vulnerable children placed into local, loving families will long outlive our presence in the country! Stay connected for more updates and make sure you keep an eye out on GlobalGiving for this new phase of the project!
