Meet Nana, a brave nine-year-old girl who was born with a cleft palate and faced abandonment by her biological parents when she was just a new-born. At the age of two and a half, Nana was placed into foster care.
Nana carried a heavy burden of feeling unwanted and blamed herself for her circumstances. She believed that her parents didn't want her and saw her placement into an institution as a sign of her own inadequacy. She viewed herself as unlovable and unworthy.
However, Nana's foster mother was determined to change this negative perception. She worked tirelessly to show Nana that she was cherished, wanted, and valued, regardless of her gender or impairment. She reassured Nana, saying, “You have done nothing wrong. Your parents, due to their financial limitations, believed that you would receive better medical care and rehabilitation treatment in the institution. It was never your fault.”
The unwavering love and belief of her foster mother began to transform Nana's self-perception. Today, she radiates much more confidence than before. Nana actively participates in classroom activities and is well-liked by her peers. Recently, she even took on the leading role in a school play, showcasing her newfound self-assurance.
Reflecting on her journey, Nana shared her happiness, saying, “Before, I wasn't happy. I could only get a balloon on Children's Day. But now, my foster parents love me. I can have a balloon whenever I want! Every day feels like Children's Day!”
>Nana's story is a testament to the transformative power of love, support, and the belief in a child's worth. With the nurturing care of her foster mother, Nana has discovered her own self-worth and has embraced a newfound sense of joy and confidence.
